Particle backgrounds and glassmorphism: choosing hero atmosphere effects

The hero is a visitor first impression. Atmosphere effects can strongly improve visual memory, but they also carry a performance cost.

When to use particles, star fields, flowing light, and glassmorphism for hero areas, with performance in mind.

Define the purpose before choosing the effect

Particles, star fields, and flowing light suit different moods. Decide what emotion the hero should convey first.

Avoid stacking multiple real-time effects on one page. One effect in the priority area is enough.

Use glassmorphism to carry content

Glassmorphism works best as a surface for text or cards, which reads clearer than covering the whole area with the effect.

Blur strength should be moderate. Too much loses hierarchy; too little loses the glass feel.

Always downgrade on mobile

Real-time particles drop frames on low-end phones. Strengthen the effect on desktop and simplify it on mobile.

Switch device tiers in preview to check frame rate before shipping, so users do not report lag.
